Reactive Lymph nodes: Has she been sick recently? The most common "lumps behind the ears" are lymph nodes that are reacting to a recent or current infection, generally a "head cold", ear or sinus infection. The lymph nodes are part of the immune system and get rev'ed up a bit. They generally will decrease in size and become less tender after the inciting infection resolves.
