Not necessarily: Mild flank pain after ESWL can simply be because of kidney irritation after the procedure, or perhaps because fragments are now beginning to move down the ureter, or kidney drainage tube, to the bladder. You may have some blood tinged urine episodically as well. You may need to be re-evaluated by your urologist if you develop a fever or begin to have pain that is severe and does not relent.

Not necessarily: Hi. There is no way to tell the lithotripsy wasn't effective without imaging studies. Mild flank pain is not uncommon following lithotripsy. Good luck!
