Nothing serious: Big clumps in your periods can signify blood that have accumulated into clots or blood mixed with tissue lining the uterus. As your lining in the uterus sheds, you will have bleeding. If you have excessive or prolonged bleedings (> 7 days), see your ob-gyn doctor for treatment options best suited for your needd.

There are options: There are lots of treatment options for heavy periods. For women who are not done having periods birth control pills work well. Mirena (levonorgestrel) iuds can decrease bleeding significantly. There is a nonhormonal medication called Lysteda that works great. For those done with childbearing endometrial ablations are good options.
