A member asked:

What is a functional hypothyroidism? is it possible that i could have hypothyroid inspite of my blood tests showing normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Nonsense term: Hi. If your TSH and free T4 are normal without any thyroid treatment, you're not hypothyroid. Symptoms associated with hypothyroidism are not specific for hypothyroidism, and can be found in other conditions as well (or with no disease at all). I'm guessing if your doc told you you have "functional hypothyroidism", he/she just meant you have some characteristic symptoms but normal thyroid function
