Is it normal to loose 3 pounds after urinating? it was only a seemingly small amount of urine

No, it's not.: More likely a scale error. The bladder only holds about 300- 400 ml. Read more about a healthy bladder: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/750519_3

No: Bladder capacity is between 400-600 ml, which represent roughly 400 to 600 gms. 3 pounds would be approximately 1360 gms.
