Do not worry: A young woman's hymen can have very different appearances, which may also be different depending on whether she is sexually active, uses tampons, etc...It is not terribly likely there's any thing wrong (or to be ashamed of), but without seeing what you describe it's impossible to be absolutely certain. A short exam (probably just looking) with a doctor might help. Good wishes.
