Liver damage: Trebinafine can cause liver damage and can even lead to liver failure, requiring liver transplant. This has occurred even in individuals without preexisting liver disease. Liver function tests should be monitored while taking trebinafine. There is a new topical medication, JUBLIA (efinaconazole), used to treat fungal infections, which is much safer for the liver.
