Syphilis? Herpes?: The most common causes of genital ulcer are herpes and syphilis, especially if sexually active at the time. If a single painless ulcer, syphilis is the main concern. That could have caused fever in the next few months, but not a new fever 7 years later. If the ulcer was painful, if more than one ulcer, or if recurrent outbreaks, probably herpes. In any case, see a doctor for sure.
