A member asked:

I have quite a few tiny ulcers that have appeared in the last two days at the base of my tongue and in my lower lip. should i be concerned?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I would be...: Aphthous stomatitis involving common canker sores can occur in up to 15% of americans, & may involve some bacteria like staph epidermidis. However, similar-appearing aphthous ulcers can be seen with herpes, crohn's disease, & other systemic disorders (Behcet's). But if you have multiple aphthous ulcers or frequently recurring ones, please have the lesions (& possible underlying cause) checked out.
