A member asked:

Will doxycycline hyclate treat trichomoniasis

No: Trichomonas responds to metronidazole and to the similar tinidazole. If someone with trichomoniasis is allergic to these medications, one recommendation is for that person to undergo Desensitization Therapy by an Allergist, so that he/she can be treated safely with one of these two antibiotics.

Not the right med.: Trichomoniasis can be treated w one or multiple oral doses of metronidazole or tinidazole. These are antibiotics which your doctor can order. Metronidazole is 90 to 95% effective and tinidazole is 86 to 100% effective.
