Have it checked: Wound separation after surgery is called wound dehiscense. Besides a less than ideal scar, the wound may become contaminated when it opens. Wound healing may occur with the upper layers of skin healing, but may still develop an abscess deep in the tissues. I would recommend that you notify your surgeon, as the pain and swelling may represent early signs of infection.

Need to be seen: You should see your surgeon again as soon as possible. You may have a collection of fluid or blood in the wound site
