See below: Depending on the type of malaria, some can hide out in the liver and pop out again later down the road; if you are given a medication called Primaquine to treat these (in addition the treatment for active malaria), you shouldn't have recurrences after. Multiple recurrences would suggest reinfection, especially if you live in an endemic area.
