Reexamination: I don't see anything contraindicated that they can eat. The problem is they don't eat and since they are small, their blood volume is also less and can get dehydrated easily. Bring him back to the doctor to make sure the is not happening as fluids will be necessary. Fluid is the most important factor at this time any which one.
