IBS and colitis: It is not uncommon to see a little mucous in the stool occasionally, however, you must be certain that nothing else is wrong. If you have irritable bowel it is important to have regular exams and to monitor the stool for blood or any other changes. Regular and appropriately timed colon exams are needed. If you have more than occasional small amounts-you need checked for a type of colitis as well
