Need ultrasound?: The corpus luteum, which means yellow body in latin, is what is left of the follicle after a woman ovulates. In the absence of pregnancy it collapses and goes away. This is a normal process. You can have an ultrasound during menses but you may not need one if the corpus luteum is your only concern.
