Wisdom teeth: Yes, it could be TMJ syndrome. You should see a dentist or an Oral surgeon, get some X-rays or/ and a CT scan to properly diagnose and eliminate the wisdom tooth as an issue. In general, With a wisdom tooth decayed, I would get the wisdom tooth out of the way first to eliminate it as a culprit. Stay safe.
