Not typical: Sciatica typically does not cause the whole like to see well. Swelling in the lower leg can happen if there is weakness and the muscles are not pumping blood back to the heart. In your situation, if it is truly the entire leg that is swelling, I would be concerned about a vascular problem and have this evaluated right away. An ultrasound of the leg would be the most prudent first step.

No: It is unlikely that sciatica is causing your leg to swell. I would be concerned about a clot in that leg. You should see your physician and see if they will get an ultrasound of that leg.
