It is a fantasy: to believe that by avoiding these positions your lungs would not be damaged by smoking. They will. And 2/3 of people who smoke will die from smoking related diseases, not all of which are lung disease. For example, impotence, heart attacks and strokes are all directly caused by smoking. Encourage your friend to stop now.

I have been waking at night with a sort of "tightness" along my sternum with what I would describe as uncomfortable (not painful) breathing. It is also accompanied by an anxious feeling. The chest tightness and anxiousness is also present some during the day (today, for example, it was present most of the day off and on) and seems to be worse if I am sitting or laying down, opposed to standing. I'm unsure if the anxious feeling is due to the chest tightness or the other way around Tightness?
I am having intense sharp pain in my lower right abdomen. It is worse when I am in a sitting position. Excruciating with a bowel movement. I have had a full hysterectomy. If I pull my knees up to my chest or lay down, the pain's less. No fever/nausea?
