Blood flow: inflammation is a normal response to an injury or infection, causing redness, soreness, warmth, and swelling. Now, gangrene is a condition wherein the blood supply to an area is inadequate, perhaps caused by severe inflammation, and the tissue actually dies, turning dark or black, and will not normalize.
