Drowning...: During drowning, the airways are filled with fluid so air exchange cannot happen. So, carbon dioxide cannot be removed and oxygen cannot get into the lungs. Therefore, oxygen cannot circulate to the rest of the body including the brain, the heart, the kidneys, etc. If the body is deprived of oxygen long enough, death can occur.
