Emergency: If your inhaler is "not working" you may need emergent care. If anxious get to an er. If this is a general observation, your doc can test you with pft equipment, in their office.

A 44-year-old member asked:
How long should?Ventolin last before you have to get a refill?
1 doctor answer • 1 doctor weighed in

Dr. Lokesh Guglani answered

Depends on usage: Ventolin comes with a dose counter & in 200 or 60 puff sizes. Counter reads 204 or 64 when you open it first, as the extra 4 puffs are for priming the inhaler before initial use. Do not use it past expiration date, and get your refill when there are less than 20 puffs left on your current inhaler to ensure that you are not waiting until the last minute or risk running out when you need it most.

Perhaps: One can have a withdrawal reaction from no longer taking any medication one used to take. This is the reason why when stopping an inhaler one might want to discuss it with the doctor to prescribed a reduced tapering regimen.
