A member asked:

Would the invasion of a cell by viruses increase the osmolarity of the cell?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Everything that enters a cell carries with it an amount of water proportionate to the osmotic pull. A virus, being a single particle, in this physical-chemistry scenario, has the same pull as a sodium ion. The permeability of the cell membrane to water is unaffected.
