A member asked:

How do viruses destroy the body's cells in order to reproduce themselves?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Collateral damage: Well this is a complex question, since there are many types of viruses and different organs that can be infected by any one of these. The viruses just want to live, but sometimes the IMMUNE SYSTEM will take out a whole cell that's infected - we call that collateral damage in the military - since the body really wants to stop the infection. This is obviously more complex but hopefully you get it.
