What can cause a broken uvula?

No such thing: There is no bone to "break" in the uvula which is made up of soft tissue (mucosa, submucosa) as well as muscle. There is no such thing as a broken uvula. There is a "bifid" uvula which is a congenital anomaly in which in appears forked.
