Actually variable: Effects. The effect of exercise on melatonin levels is variable depending on the timing of the exercise during the day and the intensity. Late night intense exercise has been demonstrated to lead to an acute increase in melatonin levels, not so true with late night low intensity exercise. While daytime exercise(whether high or low intensity) seems to have limited effect on melatonin.
