YES YES YES: The herpes virus on the LIPS is completely different from the one spread by sex. They are close "relatives" but quite different! Hope this helps Dr Z

Yes: Herpes Simplex type I commonly causes sores around the mouth and lips. HSV 1 is transmitted through oral secretions sharing objects like utensils cups, kissing.
