Depends.: Answers are different depending on gender and age. It is very common in women, due to their short urethra. Any trauma. including irritation, to the orifice of the urethra (even if microscopic scratch) can serve as an entry way for germs to travel up the urinary tract symptoms. No bubble baths, fragrances in detergents or soaps, over-scrubbing, etc. can do it.
