Several causes: Black stools could be due to an upper GI bleed (ie, a bleeding ulcer), usually accompanied with symptoms of upper abdominal pain, and risk factors - excessive aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, or alcohol use. Black stools can also be due to foods that harmlessly darken your stools. If you have any frank blood in your stools, abdominal pain, fatigue, lightheaded seek med attention asap for exam.
