Ankylosing Spondylts: This is an inflammatory condition that results in gradual fusion of the neck and back, sacroiliac joints, and hips. This can result in severe deformity and disability. Most problems stem from poor position of neck after fusion. Another problem is lumbar and thoracic fusion that causes a stooped posture. Either may be treated with spinal osteotomy (cutting and repositioning the spine) and fusion.
