Yes: Yes, it can. We sometimes, but rarely find it in the blood in blood cultures. That said, although it may go throughout the body, most do not affect the rest of the body. As one of my instructors used to say "bacteria usually go to one type of school", meaning that they tend to be specific to certain types of body tissues.
