I have some cracked toenails the worst being my big toe right down the middle. what can cause this?

Multiple causes: Nail cracking or fissuring can be caused by fungus, damage to the root or matrix as well as a number of dermatological conditions. If there is also discoloration under the nail, fungus is the likely culprit.
