Hopefully: If this is an acute problem, and you are sick with a cold, cough or the like, then it is not a big deal. It should go away with time (<7 days). However, if you are coughing up blood for more than a few days and especially if you feel otherwise well, you need to get that checked out asap. Coughing up blood could be a sign of a serious problem.
