Insomnia: Chronic insomnia can cause actvation of the sympathetic nervous system. This can cause the release of 'stress hormones' which can also trigger the release of catecholamines. These substances elevate heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, etc. All of these things tend to keep us awake at night. Seek a consultation with someone trained in sleep medicine for more information.
