Muscle spasm: Rhomboids hold the shoulder blades toward spine & stabilize shoulder blade for arm lifting. Chronic & repetitive stress can strain these muscles. Examination would find tenderness upon palpation of medial (toward the spine) side of shoulder blade where rhomboid tendons join muscle to bone. Ergonomic changes at work stations, physical therapy, acupuncture, massage, yoga, & swimming advised.
