Find pain generator: Usually the bulging disc is just a coincidental finding, and the true causation may involve facet problems, or sacro-iliac issues, and your injection may be aimed at one of these issues. Several different variations of injections, and some may work better than others. Also, might consult with osteopathic specialist, as they are used to dealing with problems like yours. ?Piriformis syndrome.

Surgery: If you continue to have pain after 6-8 weeks despite best efforts to get better without surgery and have tried pt, nsaids, steroids, etc, you likely need to see a neurosurgeon for an evaluation to see if surgery would be indicated.
