Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Antidepressant: Purpose of antidepressant is to balance your neurotransmitters such as serotonin and/or norepinephrine. When you taper off, it's hoped that your body can maintain balance. However if not, then you may feel depressed/anxious once more. If so, talk to doc about restarting same medication.

A known unknown: We know the atd initial actions, but the brain transmitters and circuitry adapt in a complex manner. Some people relapse, some do fine when they stop. But the risk of relapse is higher than those who continue. Be very careful stopping if you have history of suicidal tendencies.
