Weight gain: Sorry but i'm not familiar w/"ster retention". However, weight gain is a known side effect of doxepin, a serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Doxepin appears to work thru h1 (histamine) receptor which is known to be involved with weight gain thru antipsychotics as well. Plan to focus on more exercise, less calories, preferably both to achieve 500kcal deficit each day to lose 1lb/wk.

Not water retention: Almost all of the antidepressants have been associated with some weight gain. The one most free of that seems to be wellbutrin or bupropion but it can make anxiety worse. In any case the gain is not just water retention. It seems to be a function of increased apetite.
