4 steps: 1) if it just started without trauma, rest it for a bit. Don't do any heavy lifting. 2) use some ice 3) take some ibuprofen 4) if not better in 10-14 days get it looked at. If the pain started after a fall or if you heard a pop, then you might want to see someone sooner.
