Few studies: Placing the film strip in the cheek space may provide more effective absorption. There are no studies using suboxone, but several with other drugs used this way. Am aware of no studies with food as an issue.

Timing : Since taking it sublingually (under the tongue), it can be taken irrespective of food; oral cavity should not be dry as to help absorption through the mucosa. Taking it in the morning or shortly after waking up, before withdrawal and cravings set in can be tried. Once to twice daily dosing should be adequate. The answer greatly depends on the individual patient-doctor.
