Prevention: Multiple preventative meds present, including topirimate, depakote, beta-blockers, botox, but also otc, such as riboflavin, butterbur, feverfew, magnesium, co-q-10. Some foods act as triggers and lists can be "googled". Bright lights and strong odors can be problems also. Discuss with your doc and try one or more of the above. Might use excedrin migraine to stop.

Start with OtC meds: Your friend could try no sugars, no nicotine, and one of the various over the counter migraine meds for starters, along with bed rest.
