May: You may potentially be pregnant, specially if spotting was very light. I would say that you may want to wait another week before you test again. If negative and no menses , for the next 4 to 6 weeks , repeat the pregnancy test and if negative go see your doctor.

Yes: It sounds like about the right timing for implantation bleeding. It is possible that you got pregnant, and then about the time you were supposed to have another period, instead you got implantion bleeding, which is nothing more than spotting. If you have symptoms of pregnancy, then wait a week or two and then take another home pregnancy test, or to be absolutely sure, get a blood test from your fp.
