Have Infection: You have an infection in the bone at the end of the root of a tooth. The tissue/cheek will swell until the infection can open up a drainage point. At that time the swelling goes down, however the infection is still there and multiplying. Important: when you an infection, the bacteria enters your blood stream and will go everywhere in your body the blood steam goes. Go to dentist now.

N0: Usually once the infection has resolved for a while, any residual swelling disappears. Using ice can make this happen faster.

Swelling: The swelling may come and go as the infection drains, or the body fights it off, but the infection will not go away until the source of the infection is dealt with.
