How do people get chronic pain syndrome?

No one is sure: That is a very difficult question to answer. We really do not know what trigger the heightened response of the nerve endings of certain ppeople to painful stimuli. It may be related to the presence of certain substances called kinins but there is still a lot to be learned.

Chronic Pain: Chronic or persistent pain lasts 6 mos. Past the point of normal healing. Most people get into trouble when they continue to use methods appropriate for acute pain to treat chronic pain. Depression, pain, social isolation, poor social support, pain catastrophizing, sleep problems, chronic opiate use, and a strong somatic focus can all combine to make it difficult to cope with chronic pain.
