Malignant tumor: Mesothelioma is a malignant tumor of the outer lining of the lungs, otherwise known as the pleura. Mesothelioma is most commonly associated with exposure to asbestos.

Malignant: Benign is relatively infrequent, localized and removable . Malignant is "cancer" and expands and invades and spreads and frequently is beyond surgical efforts when found most have had an exposure to asbestos.
