When to test for HIV: Any more HIV testing can be conclusive fourteen to twenty-one days post exposure. This test, known as an HIV pcr dna test should be available in all high risk settings. The regular or antibody test for HIV is thought to not be appropriate at four weeks post exposure. It often takes longer to make antibodies that can be picked up on testing. So, the new viral testing is the right test early on.
