Sounds sciatic : It sounds like you have been having pain due to a disc problem that has likely herniated causing pain more localized to the side it herniated pinching a nerve creating pain down the leg. 90% get better non operatively. Medication, physical therapy & epidural injections may help with only 10% needing surgery. Other possibilities include a hip joint problem, pyriformis syndrome & si joint issue.

Sacroiliac joint: Sciatica pain associated with groin pain correlate with sacroiliac joint disorder. Disk herniation pain does not typically radiate to the groin, but does radiate to the calf or foot. An osteopath can diagnose. Another feature of sacroiliac joint disorder is that lying on the sleep surface is equally painful. Disk disorder somewhat lessens with lying down.

Pinched Nerve: Sounds like you have a pinched nerve in your back. I would suggest seeing a pain/spine specialist to evaluate you further to evaluate what level and what can be done to treat you. There are interventional treatments besides medications and surgeries that might reduce or eliminate the pain altogether.
