A member asked:

Do antidepressants block dopamine receptors or increase dopamine? if you dont have too much dopamine and they block it, arent they harmful?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It depends: It depends on the antidepressant. Wellbutrin (r) (bupropion) blocks Dopamine reuptake pump and, net, increases Dopamine in the synapse. Zoloft (sertraline) has a weak effect. (source; richelson e. Mayo clinic proceedings). If you have adequate Dopamine and don't need it, these could indeed make you jittery and give you side effects. You'd have sxs, and want to quit, before they would harm.
