My second toe on my left foot has been swollen and red for the last week. it hurts to the touch and is painful to just leave it be.

See a podiatrist.: Redness and swelling could be from trauma or fracture (did you stub it?), from painful arthritic conditions like gout, or from an infection. See your podiatrist to narrow down your possibilities and discuss individualized treatment.

Toe fracture : Several diagnosis can be made here but you should go get an x-ray and rule out a toe fracture. An ultrasound can be taken as well and rule toe sprain. Lastly it could be a toe infection, check for any cuts or fissures. And streaking in terms of redness ascending your leg. Please see your pcp or foot specialist.
