Not a good idea.: The umbilical cord needs to dry in order to fall off - in general petroleum products form a barrier and inhibit the drying process. Just leave the cord alone, wipe off the vaseline with some alcohol wipes and the cord will usually fall off by 10 days or so.

Give a bath cord cl: Congratulations! you can start giving her a bath when you you want to. It is controversial but you can use cotton swab dipped in alcohol around the umbilical stump or you can leave it to dry on its own. Use infant diapers with umbilical cord notch or fold the diaper to expose the stump.

See below: Best to leave the cord area alone other than maybe once a day cleaning (along with the child) with soap and water only. The cord actually needs some bacterial growth around it to cause a process called granulation to occur and constriction and separation of the cord stalk.
