Inverted Nipples: Usually inverted nipples are related to the “tethering” effect of lactiferous ducts; therefore surgical correction often involves division of these ducts. New onset nipple inversion may be a sign of a more ominous problem; best to be seen by your physician for examination and specific advice. Best wishes.

Tethering: Sometimes in pregnancy the breasts become engorged, however the ductal tissue does not stretch completely. This causes the nipple itself to be pulled inward relative to the engorgement of the tissue around it. However with some types of cancer skin and nipple retraction can be seen. If there are no masses palpable it is unlikely that there is any cancer however it is best to have this examined.
